Georgia GOAL Addback Opportunity | Apply by September 30, 2026
Georgia's GOAL Scholarship Program lets taxpayers redirect a portion of what they already owe in state income tax to student scholarships — instead of that money going into the general state fund. In exchange, donors receive a dollar-for-dollar Georgia income tax credit for their contribution.
Why This Year Is Different
The statewide $120 million cap for GOAL tax credits was reached on the very first business day of 2026 — faster than ever before. Because of that, the Georgia Department of Revenue is now releasing any unfunded or underfunded 2026 credits back to taxpayers. This is the first time this kind of additional opportunity has ever been offered.
It's important to understand this is not a guaranteed allocation. The total amount available is currently unknown, and approvals are likely to be prorated. Historically, between $4 million and $14 million in credits have gone unused each year — but the 2026 figure won't be known until applications are processed.
Who Can Apply
- Already contributed to GOAL in 2026? You can apply for the remaining amount under your original limit. Example: a married couple who requested $5,000 and was approved for and contributed $2,434 may apply for the remaining $2,566.
- Haven't contributed yet in 2026? You can apply for up to the maximum amount allowed for your filing status.

How to Apply
- Click Returning Donors if you've contributed to GOAL before, or First Time Donors if this is your first application.
- Submit your addback application before September 30.
- Watch for your approval notification in early October, then complete payment within 60 days.
