Donovan Catholic High School has once again been named to the College Board’s AP School Honor Roll at the Platinum level, the highest distinction awarded for Advanced Placement programs.
This recognition places Donovan among the most academically rigorous and successful high schools in the country. In fact, only 1,257 schools nationwide, approximately 8% of eligible high schools, earned Platinum status this year.
Out of more than 5,700 schools recognized overall (just 36% of eligible schools), Platinum represents the very top tier, highlighting exceptional performance in both student participation and achievement in AP coursework.
What It Takes to Be Platinum
The AP School Honor Roll, launched by the College Board in 2023, recognizes schools that not only offer rigorous coursework but also ensure students succeed in it.
To reach the Platinum level, schools must demonstrate strong outcomes across three key benchmarks:
-
College Culture: A significant percentage of students take AP courses
-
College Credit: A high percentage of students earn scores of 3 or higher (qualifying for college credit)
-
College Optimization: Students take multiple AP courses across their high school career, including early participation
Meeting these standards requires both broad access and high performance, a combination that only a small percentage of schools nationwide achieve.
A Distinction That Sets Donovan Apart
Earning Platinum status is not only rare but also a reflection of a school’s commitment to preparing students for college-level work and long-term success.
Donovan’s continued recognition at this level underscores the strength of its academic program, the dedication of its faculty, and the drive of its students. It also reinforces Donovan’s position as a leader in college readiness and academic excellence in the Athens area.
Preparing Students for What’s Next
Advanced Placement courses enable students to engage in college-level coursework, build critical-thinking skills, and potentially earn college credit before graduation.
By once again achieving Platinum status, Donovan affirms its mission to challenge students, support their growth, and equip them for success beyond high school.
